Join us on the Library lawn, as investigative journalist Brian Ross interviews Barry Meier, author of Spooked.  Learn about a Pulitzer Prize winner’s journey into a billon-dollar secret industry that is shaping our world – the booming business of private spying, operatives-for-hire retained by companies, political parties  and the powerful to dig up dirt on their enemies and, if need be, destroy them.

This event is free  but requires advance registration.  We will meet on the Library lawn, socially-distanced, with limited seating.  SIgned copies of the book will be available to purchase.

Barry Meier is a former reporter for The New York Times. He has specialized in reporting on business, public policy and health and safety. His investigations have examined, among other subjects, the overzealous marketing of the painkiller OxyContin, the selective release of drug trial findings and self-dealing among companies involved in the hospital supply industry.Before joining The Times, he was a special projects reporter for New York Newsday. Previously, he worked for five years as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal. His articles both at The Times and elsewhere have led to Congressional hearings and changes in federal laws.He is also the author of “Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic,” published in 2003, a book about pain treatment and prescription drug abuse that grew out of his reporting about OxyContin for The Times.
