The Merryall Center

Mrs. Smith

15 June 2019
8:00 PM

Socialite, cat lover, and world's most unlikely guitar hero MRS. SMITH to bring her rockin’ comedy show to The Merryall Center for the Arts.

What happens when you cross Dame Edna with Eddie Van Halen? Someone has actually answered this question and the answer is... Mrs Smith.

Genre-smashing performance artist MRS. SMITH comes to The Merryall Center for the Arts for an evening of unhinged guitar pyrotechnics, fully bonkers comedic storytelling, and Lady of a Certain Age Pathos.

Mrs. Smith is a larger than life “woman on the verge” who is taking the world by storm with her guitar playing antics and epic search for her missing cat Carlyle. From her Little House on the Prairie-style childhood to her kidnapping at the hands of a Norwegian Death Metal band, Mrs Smith will leave no stone unturned and no note unplayed.

The show features originals by Mrs. Smith and whacked out covers of Prince, Taylor Swift, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, Joe Satriani, and more.

ABOUT MRS. SMITH
Mrs. Smith is the creation of actor / musician David Hanbury. Mrs. Smith’s unique form of musical performance comedy has been seen on America's Got Talent and PBS Television and she has performed sold-out shows at some of New York City's most prestigious venues including Joe's Pub at the Public Theater, The Cutting Room, and Bowery Ballroom. Along the way, she's picked up endorsements by top music brands including Ibanez Guitars and starred in a GUCCI commercial directed by fashion "it girl" Petra Collins.

Along the way, Mrs. Smith racked up some impressive credentials recently being named "Best in Music" by Vogue's Editorial Board, self-releasing an EP and music videos, and extensive touring and a recent feature in Rolling Stone.

Here’s what the press has said about Mrs. Smith:

“America's Next Guitar Savoir” -- Guitar World Magazine

“Equal parts virtuoso and absolute maniac!” -- KERRANG!

"Unparalleled musical skill!” – NYLON

Mrs. Smith's debut EP, “Introducing Mrs. Smith” is available here.

About the Merryall Center

The Merryall Center

Merryall Center is an intimate theater and community center on a narrow back-country road in rural Litchfield County, Connecticut. Yet for more than six decades, it has played host to luminaries from all over the United States. We are told there is nothing like it anywhere.

Formed in 1951 to provide a link between weekenders and Merryall residents, the center has evolved into a venue for performing artists, featuring professional entertainment and education in an intimate setting — it only seats 75 people. Those gracing its stage have included Fredric March, Marian Anderson, Skitch Henderson, Eartha Kitt, Margaret Meade, Chris Brubeck,
Isaac Stern and Jeffrey Toobin.

The Merryall Center receives support from the New Milford Commission on the Arts and the Connecticut Community Foundation.
