Hot Tips from the Hotchkiss Library

A note from our Executive Director

The Library is so quiet without our patrons and staff. I am the only person with access to the building, but, during my very limited time there, I wonder how the pandemic of 1918 affected the Town and the Library, and I think about how our current crisis will inform our programming and services when we are finally able to reopen. The staff is making use of this time for professional development, producing content, and compiling these jam-packed newsletters. I am working on a brand-new website, selecting books to order for you to read when we reopen, and keeping in touch with resources and colleagues in the greater library community to weather this storm. I am also deep in discussion with our Board about how to adapt our fundraising needs to our current reality.
Our vital functions continue, providing materials and programs, although in new ways.  Please explore our digital collections and consider joining our ongoing Crafting and book discussion groups. If you have children at home, tune into Mrs. Sam’s fabulous Brunch Bunch on Facebook and YouTube, for stories and fun activities. Download a movie from Hoopla. Listen to an audiobook from SimplyE. Do you need (or need to renew) a library card?  If there are other ways we can help you digitally, please be in touch! We are here for you!
Here are our upcoming virtual programs:

Poetry Month Continues....with poems popping up like spring flowers.
Like a lot of celebrated ideas, we think poetry is something to be savored year round. One way to keep poetry in your life - or at least your inbox, is to subscribe to Poem a Dayfrom the American Academy of Poets. It is free, but it's easy to show your appreciation with a little donation! Their theme this year isShelter in Poems.
