Kennedy Documentaries Scheduled for Two Sharon Town Hall Screenings
We have changed how to pre-order tickets. Those interested in attending should go to sharondtc.org to get tickets.
The Sharon Democratic Town Committee will screen a unique double feature of two groundbreaking political films at the Sharon Town Hall on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. and again on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m.
At the same time John F. Kennedy was campaigning for President in 1960, Robert Drew and a team of soon-to-be celebrated filmmakers introduced a streamlined camera rig that, for the first time, allowed filmmakers to move in real-time with their subjects so stories could unfold in front of the camera lens as they happened. The results are seen in two acclaimed films that capture one of America's most storied presidents in action, including the only scenes ever filmed in the Oval Office while real decisions are being made.
The Sharon DTC will screen both films back-to-back at showings on Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Following the films, there will be a discussion moderated by Sharon resident Jill Drew, general manager of Drew Associates, which produced the films.
Tickets are $15. Proceeds will benefit the Sharon Democratic Town Committee. Seating is limited. Tickets are best purchased in advance at sharondtc.org.
Wine, beer, soda, popcorn and homemade treats will be available for purchase.
PRIMARY was one of the first 20 films named to the Library of Congress National Film Registry, which recognizes works of enduring importance to American culture. It was awarded a Blue Ribbon at the 1961 American Film Festival and won the 1961 Robert J. Flaherty Award for Best Documentary. It was named Outstanding Film of the 1961 London Film Festival.
CRISIS: BEHIND A PRESIDENTIAL COMMITMENT is also on the Library of Congress National Film Registry. It was an invited participant at the 1963 New York Film Festival and won First Prizes at both the 1964 Venice International Film Festival and the 1964 International Documentary Film Festival. It was also awarded the 1964 CINE Golden Eagle.
