Lynn will be hosting a series of 6 Death Cafe's monthly, starting Thursday, February 13. They will be held at the D M Hunt Library on Beebe Hill Road in Falls Village from 5:30 to 7:00pm. and each month thereafter on the second Thursday, thru July at the same time.
Death Café is a place where people come together in a relaxed and safe setting to discuss death, dying, end of life issues. Tea and cake are usually served. Lynn will be offering light refreshments including tea and cake. The premise is to "increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives". There is no agenda. It is just a time to discuss death without expectations. It is free and open to anyone.
The original movement was started in Switzerland by sociologist Bernard Crettaz, he called them "Café Mort". The late Jon Underwood took the idea to Paris and London and is attributed to the success of this worldwide movement. Since Sept. 2011, 10,130 Death Cafes in 69 countries have been offered. Jon died suddenly on June 27th, 2017 and his mother Susan Barsky Reid and his sister Jools Barsky now are in charge.
