Digital Art Pioneer Mark Wilson GP ’19 Shows Selected Work in the Tremaine March 26 - May 5 FEB 27 2019

The Tremaine Art Gallery is pleased to present the exhibit Unstructured Structures featuring the selected work of artist and Hotchkiss grandparent Mark Wilson. The exhibit will run March 26 - May 5 with an artist reception scheduled for Saturday, March 30, 4 - 6 p.m. Additionally the artist will present at gallery talk Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend both events.

Mark Wilson GP ’19 is a digital art pioneer who began writing computer code in 1980 to create his own work. His computer generated art has been widely exhibited throughout the U.S. and Europe at influential venues including SIGGRAPH, Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria, and “Digital Pioneers” at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, among others. Ars Electronica awarded Wilson the Distinction in Computer Graphics in 1992. 

Wilson is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and several grants from the Connecticut Office of Culture and Tourism. He is the author of “Drawing with Computers” (Putnam 1985), of which Scientific American wrote “… [Wilson provides] the path no one quite knows toward the new art we hope for one day.”  His work can be found in several corporate, museum, and private collections including IBM, Apple, UniSys, United Technologies, Mobil, Prudential Insurance, Thoma Foundation, Block Museum, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Victoria and Albert Museum, Portland Art Museum, Philip Johnson, and Ivan Karp. Wilson resides in Cornwall, CT.

The Tremaine Art Gallery is located in the main building of The Hotchkiss School. With education at the heart of its mission, the gallery hosts approximately six exhibitions a year.
