Award-winning expressionistic painter Helen Cantrell opens the summer season at The White Gallery with her show "A Sense of Place."

"We are excited to bring the expressive modernist landscapes of Helen Cantrell to our gallery," said Tino Galluzzo, director of The White Gallery. “I like to paint landscapes,” says Helen Cantrell, “urban, suburban, and shoreline in an expressionist gestural style.”

Susan opened The White Gallery in Lakeville, CT in 2002 to highlight the works of well-known local and international artists, as well as emerging artists.  They have travel around the world in their quest to discover new artists, and they have been honored to show the work of famed artists  Robert Natkin, David Dunlop, Alberta Cifolelli, and Jane Filer as well as prints by Andrew Wyeth.

The gallery represents more than 21 artists and their works including prints, photographs, abstract paintings, paintings, sculpture, mixed media and photo mosaics.

The White Gallery has shipped art to most of the United States and many other countries, so if you see something you like, please contact the gallery.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Cantrell has spent much of the past 50 years living along the Northeast coast painting landscapes and suburban scenes and the people who live there.  Her inspiration to make art came at the early age of 13 years-old when she came across an article about Richard Diebenkorn and the Bay Area Figurative Art painters.  Her work reflects these influences by featuring a mix of abstraction and figuration,  with vibrant bright hues, visible brushwork, and a sense of calm.
