Pianist Leonel Morales Performs Jan. 17, 7 p.m. JAN 1 2020

The Hotchkiss Concert Series is pleased to welcome pianist Leonel Morales in concert on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. in Katherine M. Elfers Hall, Esther Eastman Music Center. Mr. Morales is a frequent guest of the Hotchkiss stage, and an audience favorite. He returns to perform exciting works by Mozart, Beethoven, Rachmaninov, and Balakirev. The concert is free and open to the public; no ticket reservations are necessary.

Leonel Morales

Born in Cuba, Leonel Morales has lived in Spain since 1991, where he has been awarded many international prizes including First Prize in the Guerrero Foundation International Piano Competition in Madrid and the Second Prize at Jaen International Piano Competition. He graduated from the University of Havana where he studied under Frank Fernandez, a student of renowned Moscow Conservatory professor Victor Merzhanov, firmly establishing Mr. Morales in the Russian tradition of pianists. Mr. Morales is a professor at Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio in Madrid and Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. He has performed all over the world, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City and toured with various orchestras, including the Spanish National Orchestra, Spanish Radio and TV Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic of Galicia, Symphonic Orchestra of Bilbao, the Symphonic Orchestra of Hamburg, Frankfurt-Oder Orchestra, RAI National Orchestra of Turin, among many others. While on tour with the Spanish National Orchestra, The Washington Post praised his “...extraordinary interpretation and power.”

The Hotchkiss Concert Series is pleased to present the Michael Musillami Trio +2 onSaturday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. in Katherine M. Elfers Hall, Esther Eastman Music Center. The group will perform new original music composed by Michael Musillami. The Michael Musillami Trio + 2 augments Musillami's long-standing core trio, featuring bassist Joe Fonda and drummer George Schuller, with the addition of Jason Robinson on saxophones and flute, and Thomas Heberer on the trumpet. The concert is free and open to the public.
