2019 Season

For our 2019 Season (May 26-June 8), we’ll be joined by our guest artist, contemporary violinist Miranda Cuckson, as well as our resident entrepreneurial artist Jessica Meyer. Students will participate in masterclasses and perform concerts at Music Mountain (Falls Village, CT), Egremont Village Inn (Egremont, MA), and National Sawdust (Brooklyn, NY), playing the music of living composers.

Described as “one of the most sensitive and electric interpreters of new music” (Downbeat Magazine), Miranda Cuckson has collaborated with an array of renowned composers including Dutilleux, Carter, Ades, Sciarrino, Adams, Boulez, Hyla, Mackey, Crumb, Iyer, Saariaho, Davidovsky, Ran, Hurel, Bermel, Wyner, Murail, Wuorinen, and Currier.

We’re also excited to continue our composer/choreographer workshops with Grammy and Pulitzer Prize Winner Aaron Jay Kernis and Tony Nominee choreographer Christopher D’Amboise. Our 2019 Composer/Choreographer Workshop will be held at The Center for Ballet and the Arts (New York, NY).

Bringing together an intimate ensemble of 20 string players aged 20-30, the festival begins with a week on the beautiful grounds of Music Mountain in Falls Village, Connecticut. Here, the musicians create their own schedules of intense study, beginning with one-on-one lessons and chamber music coaching with Peter Askim in the musicians’ chosen repertoire. Student-led chamber music rehearsals, master classes, and talks with guest artists and composers follow, as well as ensemble rehearsals devoted to the festival’s concert program of new works. A public performance at historic Music Mountain concludes the first week.
